Jupiter in Cancer
This past Monday brought us to one of the most (positively) anticipated transits of the year, Jupiter’s ingress into Cancer. Astrology enthusiasts have been looking at and talking about this transit with enthusiasm for some time—a beacon of optimism amidst a challenging year of tumultuous transits and big-picture shifts propelling us into the great unknown. And after a year of Jupiter in Gemini, where our greater benefic experiences detriment, it’s hard not to feel excited about Jupiter’s shift into exaltation in Cancer. Here’s everything you need to know about Jupiter in Cancer, from why Jupiter exalts in Cancer to some of the potential shadier sides we might see manifest with this transit, and of course, as always, what this transit means for you.
This one’s a bit on the longer side, so give it a save or bookmark it so that you can come back to it and read it in doses if that works better for you. Here’s an overview of what’s inside this piece:

Jupiter in Cancer 101
As mentioned, Jupiter exalts here in Cancer, but what does that mean? By dictionary definition, the world ‘exalt’ is “1: to raise in rank, honor, power, character, quality, etc.; elevate 2: to praise, extol.” The original Greek word was ‘hupsoma’, which refers to something that is raised up, elevated, or at its height. Whereas a planet in domicile is comfortable, knows its way around, and maybe behaves a bit predictably, an exalted planet is put on a pedestal, uplifted, and amplified. Perhaps an apt comparison might be to an influencer or public figure who performs their personality to an audience. It’s still them, but they’re amplifying the aspects of their personality that their audience wants to see. They’re probably behaving a bit differently than when they’re alone at home. In turn, their audience is resourcing them, whether they’re making money off of their audience or being energetically fed by the praise they receive from their audience. Either way, they’re being given the resources to perform what people want to see and being granted a certain level of authority.
The scheme of exaltation is built through the technical doctrines of sect and aspects. Diurnal planets (the Sun, Saturn, and Jupiter) exalt by trine, the aspect of the nature of in-sect benefic Jupiter, while nocturnal planets (the Moon, Mars, and Venus) exalt by sextile, the aspect of the nature of in-sect benefic Venus. Jupiter exalts in the sign that trines its home sign of Pisces. It gets a little more detailed from here, including why Jupiter exalts in Cancer over Scorpio (which has to do with temperament, seasons in the northern hemisphere, and Scorpio being the domicile of Mars, and Jupiter and Mars are antithetical to one another, as we see with the two exalting opposite to one another), but we’ve got a lot to cover today. I’m currently working on a piece on essential dignity that will go into this much more thoroughly, so keep an eye out!
On Jupiter in Cancer…
In essence, here in Cancer Jupiter is existing in conditions that allow it to thrive. Jupiter is able to express its core functions, growth and expansion, to the max. Cancer, the sign of nurturance, is a master of tending to, prioritizing security and safety, and connecting to the ebb and flow of one’s emotions. And, of course, what is the act of nurturing but lovingly tending to something so that it can grow to its potential and build strength? Jupiter governs themes of wisdom, spirituality, and philosophy, things that are best able to grow to their potential when our needs are met, when we feel secure enough to explore possibility and search for truth. As a planet that orients into society, Jupiter governs systems of beliefs, such as law, philosophy, and religion, and these things are at their most optimistic when our most basic needs are met, when we are nourished, and when we feel secure in the fluctuation of our own emotions. Here in Cancer, Jupiter is given what it needs to thrive, grow, and construct the systems of belief that best serve others.
Jupiter in Cancer says there is enough for everyone. Everyone eats, everyone has a home, everyone is safe, everyone is secure. Jupiter in Cancer understands that true abundance can only occur when everyone is provided for, when everyone’s needs are met. Jupiter’s exaltation in Cancer reminds us that governing systems, formal or informal, will always be defined by their limitations unless they prioritize nurturance and providing for all.
As Jupiter governs these societal systems of belief, Jupiter in Cancer also grants them the resources they need to grow to their maximum potential (for better or for worse) because these systems best grow when they appeal to emotion. Jupiter in Cancer reminds us that these systems root themselves through their emotional appeal, and that emotional appeal dictates their ability to grow.
Another resonance between the two lies in the fact that both Jupiter and the Moon have associations with fortune. Jupiter is associated with the concept of luck. Jupiterian process takes risk in order to cultivate abundance; rolls the dice as a means of maximizing possibility. Traditionally, the Moon holds association with fortune, that which we’re bestowed with in this lifetime. The Moon signifies ebb and flow, waxing and waning, growth and diminishing, all rules that fortune plays by. The relationship between Jupiter and the Moon points towards putting what you’ve got on the line to turn what you have into what you believe you deserve.
Cancer also rules over the stomach, and Jupiter in Cancer is the opportunity to allow our gut to lead the way to luck, abundance, and fortune. Jupiter in Cancer presents the opportunity to learn how to let your gut lead the way. Jupiter in Cancer tells us to follow our gut when it comes to deciding what is and isn’t worth the gamble.
Jupiter in Cancer also reminds us that what we believe starts in our gut; that no belief holds the potential to grow into a governing systems unless you truly feel it in your gut, unless it appeals to the gut and emotions of others. No amount of intellectualizing and systematizing can replace true, gut belief in something.
Jupiter also traditionally holds associations with childbearing, and of course, Cancer and the Moon are associated with maternal qualities and mothers. Jupiter in Cancer reminds us that true abundance lies in birthing that which needs to come into the world, which of course, does not have to be a literal child, but rather, that which your gut is calling you towards gestating, nurturing, shaping, and bringing into the world to its highest potential.
What to expect with Jupiter in Cancer
Jupiter will be here in Cancer for the next year until it makes an ingress into Leo on June 30, 2026. The excitement towards this transit is certainly justified, and I am NOT here to take that away from you. However, there are some rocky factors about this transit to have an eye out for, especially as this diurnal benefic first wades into the waters of Cancer.
For starters, the very same week of this ingress (this week if you’re reading this before 6/15/25) the Jupiter-Saturn square perfects for the third and final time. I covered this transit in this week’s forecast, which you can read here, and went into it in-depth on the Grimoire section of my website, which you can read here. This square isn’t comfortable or easy by any means, however, it is the start of something new. A challenging component of this square is the fact that Saturn is overcoming Jupiter—that is, Saturn is on the right-hand side of Jupiter and headed towards it—a positioning that gives Saturn the upper hand and given a more significant weight in interpreting the outcome of the square. This configuration ultimately lends towards the potential new beginnings of this square lying in the need to confront the limitations we’re coming up against and using them as a means of inspiring new pathways, planting new seeds, and embracing new visions that are informed by what we’ve learned from how previous experiences ran their course. While Saturn is considered to have the upper hand by position here, Jupiter is dignified in its current sign while Saturn is fallen in Aries. Another important component to consider with this square is Neptune’s very close proximity to Saturn, pulling this hazy planet of dream and delusion into the mix (but we’ll look much more closely at that in a second). After a few weeks Jupiter will push past the orb of this square and its intensity will wane, however, Jupiter and Saturn will by squaring each other by sign for the entirety of Jupiter’s stay in Cancer, so this square will hold significance when considering our overall story of Jupiter in Cancer.
The other important component to keep an eye on is Jupiter’s square to Neptune. Just like Jupiter’s square to Saturn, this square will perfect early on (6/18) and its intensity will ease after a few weeks, however, the two remain in a sign-based square for the entirety of Jupiter’s journey through Cancer. Neptune obscures, distorts, and makes things unclear. The more negative facets of this square present a melting pot of delusion, ego, and megalomania. The other side of that coin is a healthy dosage of delusion and self-confidence to bring your wildest fantasies to life. As far as this square on the collective stage…well, gestures at all of the general goings-on right now…we’re seeing it on the world stage right now, especially when we consider the fact that Saturn and Neptune are currently the closest they’ve been to one another in over 30 years.
One of the most positive attributions of this transit is that Jupiter will cross over the pathway of Mars’s recent retrograde. On August 26 Jupiter will reach 17° Cancer, the degree where Mars stationed direct, and spend the rest of the year in the later degrees of Cancer where Mars slowly moved back and forth antagonizing us all through the early part of the year. Even before Jupiter reaches the Mars retrograde zone you’ll still be experiencing the beneficence Jupiter has to offer in whatever area of your life that connects to the house occupied by Cancer in your natal chart, just as Mars’s retrograde presented stalling, frustrations, and even burnout in this very same area of life. If you have placements between 17°-29° Cancer (or placements that aspect these degrees, especially in Libra, Capricorn, or Aries, the other cardinal signs), then Jupiter’s time in contact with them stands to be especially hopeful and positive. Whereas the fallen Mars retrograde and extended stay in Cancer was a brutal experience of lost motivation, fruitless efforts, confrontation of emotional and energetic burnout, and provocation of suppressed emotion, the next year of exalted Jupiter in Cancer stands to generate abundant results from the work you put in with Mars retrograde.
Something else to look forward to is Jupiter hitting its degree of exaltation, 15°, where it will spend more time than Jupiter typically spends over a single degree because it’s where Jupiter will be stationing direct next year after its retrograde from November 2025-March of 2026. Jupiter will first cross this degree over the course of five days mid-August of this year, then slowly back up to it before stationing direct here on March 10, ultimately hovering around this degree from February 16-April 3. Pay close attention to anything that comes up mid-August because it may require a bit of reflection, inward journeying, and course-correcting before manifesting outwardly.
The important thing to remember about Jupiter’s time here as a whole is that Jupiter magnifies and grows what’s already present. This can be good, neutral, challenging, or even overwhelming. However, when something is magnified we can see it more clearly. Perhaps you felt neutral about something, but now that its big and in your face you see that, actually, maybe that’s not the way you want it to be. Perhaps you’ve been bumping up against something, but now that it’s magnified you can see the inner workings better so that you can get to work on changing it.
Your Jupiter in Cancer story
Jupiter was last in Cancer from June 25, 2013-July 16, 2014, and prior to that July 14, 2001-August 1, 2002, and July 31, 1989-August 19, 1990. If you were born during any of these periods you’ll experience your Jupiter return sometime during the next year. However, even if this transit doesn’t mark your Jupiter return, it’s still a significant moment marking your relationship to certain themes in your life. Think back to these periods of time (or whichever ones are relevant to your current lifespan) and consider what was going on in regards to themes of personal growth, religion and spirituality, education (particularly higher education), and your personal beliefs. Consider how that/those time period(s) set a trajectory for where you are now and how you can pick that thread back up from here.
The area of your life that will feel this transit the most directly is the house that Cancer occupies in your natal chart, and the work you do with Jupiter in Cancer will lend towards developing more secure foundations to flourish and thrive in the opposite house of your chart that holds host to Capricorn. If you have placements in Cancer Jupiter will cross over them, magnifying how you relate to that planet and presenting an opportunity to grow and further develop your relationship to that placement. Similarly, if you have placements in any other cardinal signs, Libra, Capricorn, or Aries, Jupiter will make hard aspect to them, presenting a similar opportunity through the process of meeting friction and/or integrating dualities within yourself.
Jupiter’s next year in Cancer presents an ideal time to learn how to center your own personal growth, spirituality, magical practices around the lunar model of ebb and flow, building and disseminating, which ultimately lends towards a more sustainable, more rooted, and emotionally fulfilling practice.

Looking out for the more negative sides of Jupiter in Cancer…
As with any other transit, things are never going to be a singular, straightforward, and static experience. Every planetary positioning presents a spectrum of expression, and every transit, especially our long-term ones, is a multi-faceted experience that reflects the multitude of expressions within that spectrum. And after all, Jupiter is now answering to the Moon, the very planet of fluctuation. While Jupiter in Cancer is generally considered a positive positioning, there’s still certainly some things to keep an eye out for and have awareness of.
What’s further, while we love to talk about Jupiter’s alignment with abundance and good fortune, growth is not always inherently a good thing, nor is abundance. What do we have an abundance of and what are we doing with that abundance? Is something growing beyond our control? Do we have systems and frameworks in place to handle and direct that growth? (hello, Saturn). Is what’s multiplying into abundance something we truly want more of?
Jupiter magnifies and amplifies what is already present, so Jupiter’s presence in Cancer is magnifying your relationship to that part of your chart. The good news is, while sometimes this might feel undesirable at first, when something is blown up and magnified, we get an up close and personal look at what’s going on. We have no choice but to direct our attention to what’s present, which can often key us into what needs to be done. On a collective level, there’s certainly some key themes that have been building in recent years, especially since the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in 2020, that may become undeniably magnified. This is a topic that I only have the space to scratch the surface of here, but I have a strong interest in, especially when considering historical patterns of Jupiter in Cancer. If you’re interested in exploring this topic further, please let me know down in the comments because I’d love to expand on it, especially if there’s interest!
Nostalgia
Nostalgia is a hell of a drug, and if nothing else, the internet has certainly proven this. The ‘drug’ of nostalgia is being amplified and exploited left and right these days, from the far right and our current ‘administration’ (neigh, regime) exploiting nostalgia as a tool to harken back to some mythical, non-existant time where America was supposedly some ‘great’ country (of course this begs the question…great for who? If you’re reading this you probably know the answer but if you don’t, white men. that’s who) to late-stage capitalism capitalizing on nostalgia as a marketing tool that eggs us on to keep consuming at unprecedented rates. I think this one stands to be quite interesting to keep an eye on because some of the eras being propped up most nostalgically right now are the around the times that Jupiter was last in Cancer: 2013-2014, 2001-2002, and 1989-1990. Cancer is a sign that is quite susceptible to nostalgia. The Moon rules over the memory and our immediate, somatic responses that are rooted in early experience. And, of course, good storytelling is rooted in emotional appeal. As Jupiter moves through Cancer, ask yourself what story you’re being told, what it’s appealing to within you, and if that aligns with your own greater beliefs and worldviews that you hold true. Learning to spot propaganda by who is asking yourself who is telling you what story and what feeling they want to invoke in you is essential here.
Increased Conservatism
I don’t have to tell you this, but conservatism is on the rise. Big time. And increasingly in unexpected places. I feel like I’m seeing more and more headlines about Gen Z becoming increasingly conservative, after several years of being lauded as the most progressive, most radical and change-provoking generation. Companies rebranding to play more into conservative aesthetic, such as PrettyLittleThings pivoting from bright, vibrant clubwear to a more modest and conservative vibe. Major companies who have previously positioned themselves as inclusive unabashedly dropping DEI programs and initiatives (ahem, Target). It’s becoming ‘trendier’ to embrace conservative aesthetics and values on a corporate level, which, needless to say, trickles down into the media and advertisements we’re fed, and over the last handful of months we’ve seen a number of celebrities and public figures being outed as more conservative than they had led themselves on to be, especially in the influencer spaces. Which leads me to my next point, which easily acts as an extension of this one…
Emphasizing Traditional Gender Roles
Over the last couple of years we’ve seen a major rise in trad-wife influencers as an extension of the popularity of a slow, ‘cottage-core’ lifestyle during the pandemic and in direct relation to the rise in popularity of conservatism. Far right politics are also doing everything in their power right now to control biologically female reproductive systems, as well as attack and erase trans folks. All of this is tied to the far-right emphasis on traditional gender roles and relegating women to their ‘only acceptable societal function’ (big, fat, ANGRY eye roll), which is to produce babies (aka future labor to feed the capitalist machine) and perform the unpaid labor of maintaining a traditional, patriarchal home. Which ultimately lends towards women’s dependency on the patriarchy. As an astrologer it’s important to me to avoid reductive, traditional gender binaries when I talk about astrology, but I think in this case it’s apt, especially as we’re looking at the less-than-savory manifestations of something. Cancer is traditionally considered a feminine sign, and as we’ve touched on, governs themes that the patriarchy deems inherently feminine, such as nurturing and motherhood. With Jupiter governing systems that tend get utilized as a means of control, such as law and religion, it’s essential to keep an eye on how legislative efforts continue to leverage their power over gender identity, reproductive rights, and traditional gender roles. I think this one also plays into nostalgia too, because a big line of thinking that seems to lead to embracing trad-wife-ism lies in the romanticization of not having to work and just spending time around the house cooking and cleaning while being provided for by a working husband (spoiler: it is, in fact, labor. the difference is that it’s unpaid and results in dependency on someone who may or may not have your best interests at heart).
I highly recommend ***this episode of ‘You’re Wrong About’*** to explore the topic of trad-wives.
Citizenship, connection to homelands, and national security
My friend and mentor,
Eighth House Astrology
, made an excellent observation in her instagram stories recently, drawing attention to heightening tensions as protests in LA ramp up against horrendous ICE deportations and designating this persistent theme of who has the ‘right’ to call America their homeland as something to keep an eye on through Jupiter in Cancer. Our current administration has managed to accumulate and seize power through a smear campaign that demonizes immigrants as a vague, threatening problem. And this theme isn’t just isolated to America, we’re seeing it in some big ways across the world, as the Palestinian people are being systemically targeted in and attacked by ‘Israel’ in an organized genocide as an effort to steal Palestinian homelands under the claim that it’s their ‘motherland’ and Russia and Ukraine are in an ongoing war as Russia continues efforts to steal Ukrainian land, to name a couple. Both of these instances present ongoing issues that extend back centuries and saw important moments last time Jupiter was Cancer, when Russia occupied and annexed Crimea, as well as the beginning of the 2014 Gaza war. We’re seeing things coming to a head when it comes to who has the right to what pieces of mother earth right now.
Bringing our attention back here to the US, themes of national security and surveillance are sure to get louder through Jupiter’s time in Cancer. The second to last time Jupiter was in Cancer encompassed September 11, 2001, and a subsequent monumental shift within the collective. 9/11 garnered a new wave of nationalism and patriotism, and the government capitalized on the moment with new security and surveillance legislation that continues to shape society, news and media, and our own relationship to privacy today.
One of the more excessive sides of Jupiter is fanaticism, a dogmatic and unrelenting identification with specific beliefs. And, once again, here in Cancer things not only have the ability to grow prolifically, but also tend to appeal to emotion. Cancer points towards roots and origins, which translates to relationship to ‘motherland’ and places of origin (or in this case, the place one identifies with as their place of origin). Of course Cancer craves security and safety, or at least the feeling of it, and with Jupiter governing belief systems, we certainly stand to see an emphasis on the belief of right to motherland and the ‘need for national security’.
SO TO BE CLEAR: THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS AN ILLEGAL CITIZEN ON STOLEN LAND.
A more positive way to work with these themes on a personal level is to explore and honor one’s own personal ancestry, honor the land you’re living on, and center a reverence to the earth itself as mother (I know, I know, it sounds woo but here we are). And, most importantly CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES, VOTE IN LOCAL ELECTIONS, AND DO WHATEVER IS ACCESSIBLE AND IN YOUR POWER TO RESIST FERVENT NATIONALISM ON EVERY LEVEL.
But, of course, my intent is never to fear-monger, so let’s end on an optimistic note…
None of these problems are springing up suddenly now that Jupiter is in Cancer, and I could spend an entire essay tracing historical threads of important moments that connect to how we’re facing these issues today. But this piece is already about double the length I planned on it being. Again, Jupiter blows up and magnifies what’s present, making it unavoidable. When we see something on that level we can see its flaws and weaknesses more clearly, and that includes making these flaws more visible to people previously blind to them. When we see these issues blown up to the max they bump up against their own limitations and their flimsy foundations are much more likely to crumble. In fact, sometimes that kind of expansion is what it takes to reveal those cracks. Enter: Saturn in Aries (or rather, re-enter…but these two transits are inseparable). While this is also a nuanced topic worthy of its own entire essay, Saturn in Aries are those limitations, the faultiness of control through megalomaniac-like egos. Saturn in Aries is (or at least holds the potential to be) courageous, rebellious resistance.
Jupiter in Cancer will be operating on every level possible, and your role is to align your sense of justice, your beliefs, and your world views to what you know in your gut creates grounds for abundance for everyone. As generic textbook as it sounds, Jupiter in Cancer gives way for abundance and this next year is one of exploring what that means and how to generate that abundance in a way that nourishes us as individuals, us as a collective, and the earth itself. This is a time of connecting with and growing the vision of optimistic new solutions and visions of what’s possible.
